Ever wondered how a beat comes to life from start to finish? In a series I’ve titled “Birth of a Beat,” I chronologically detail the creative process and workflow for a beat I’ve produced. Ever wondered how a beat comes to life from start to finish? In a series I’ve titled “Birth of a Beat,” I chronologically detail the creative process and workflow for a beat I’ve produced. For the first of this series, I chose to start with one I created for Japan-based emcee Hiro, which will appear on his album set to drop in February 2010.

Like any creative endeavor I embark in, there’s no tried and true way to my approach and execution. Many factors are involved in shaping how a beat comes to life whether it be mood, state of mind, what I listened to the past week, how my body feels, how motivated I am–you get the picture. You also don’t realize how much work is involved until you actually document the process. I did just that and I’m glad to be able to share my experience with you. » Continue reading…
